Return to the milk lady

Today I had to go back and see Joan, the milk lady. She watched as mommy fed me on one side, then the other. I ate 4 ounces in one sitting! That's an awful lot for someone my age (just over one week old).

Joan said I did very well, and fact since I gained so much weight since just last Friday, I don't have to come back to see her anymore. Babies my age are supposed to gain ~6 oz per week...I gained 6 oz over the weekend! Mommy and Daddy are very happy I caught on so quickly. They didn't want to have to feed me from bottles until I was good and happy getting my milk from mommy :) No sense in adding more confusion to what they started in the NICU.

This is what my belly looks like after I've had a good feeding. How much milk do you think is in there??

And this is how I feel after I'm done:

Joan said i am such a cute baby, and the only problem with her taking me home is that she couldn't feed me ;) I think I've got her wrapped around my pinky! tee hee.

Mommy and Daddy took me for my first stroller ride around the neighborhood today. I like stroller rides just as much as car rides. Soon after we're started, I doze off.

Visitors!

Today some lady named Grandma came to see me. Mommy said she visited me lots when I was in the NICU, but I don't remember...I did sleep an awful lot, though...

Grandma brought some furry creature they called Wrigley. Wrigley is very nosey and sniffs me a lot. After a while, I think she got used to me.

Wrigley also likes to lie on my boppy!

Mommy and daddy think wrigley and i will be great friends...just wait until i can chase her around! :)

a visit to the milk lady

Yesterday I went to visit the milk lady, Joan. She told mommy to bring me hungry, and boy did she! When we got there, mommy had to take all my clothes AND my diaper off, so they could weigh me. Then they teased me a lot while mommy tried to feed me some milk. We have to practice some more over the weekend, and then go back to see Joan on Monday.

Today we went to my first appt with doctor S. She said i'm perfect (of course). I gained quite a bit of weight for only being 6 days old! I also grew a bit. Here are my stats:

21.5" long (91.05%)

8# 6.8 oz. (57.23%)

36 cm (head measurement - 42.4%)

That's all for now. I know you can't get enough of my cuteness, so here's a picture from a nap i just took. Mommy thinks i look like a little elf. :)

My new home

This morning after the doctors checked me out, they told mommy and daddy that today is my last day in the NICU! So today after supper the nurses got all my stuff rounded up and sent me home! Here's a picture of my ride home - I like my carseat a lot!
I figured it was a good idea to test mommy and daddy when we got home. I decided to fill my diaper with the runniest stuff ever. Then, after mommy fed me, i decided to spit up all down her shirt. Wasn't that nice of me?

Mommy said tomorrow we have to go see the milk lady, since I am not feeding too well. Those bottles in the NICU were nice and convenient - i didn't have to work very hard to get my food. Mommy makes me work for my food, though, so I get fussy and take a long time to eat. Doctor S. said she doesn't want me to start out being picky. Apparently this milk lady has "secrets" to help mommy feed me. Huh- we'll see about that.

I'm here!

Hi everyone! Mommy's tummy was so comfy, but I finally decided to come out and meet you. Mommy had to work hard to convince me that it was okay to come, so i decided to make it worth her while. I turned my head and tucked my chin, so then mommy had to do some fun exercises to get me out ;) We went in to the hospital on Friday, and I didn't come out until Saturday. I ended up weighing 7 lb, 13 oz and was 21.25" long!

Once i was out, i needed some help breathing so they tossed me on mommy's tummy, then took me down to the NICU. There I got some funny looking tube called a CPAP shoved on my face. I was not happy, but they kept telling me it would help me breathe - I breathed in some fluid in mommy's tummy, so they were concerned about me. They started my air on 41% oxygen (the air you breathe is around 20% oxygen). They also fed me through my belly button!
They said I gave mommy a 2nd degree tear, so a few hours later, after they stitched her up and got her all settled into a new (recovery) room, they brought her down to see me. I was so glad to see her :)

Later that evening, they had me down to regular oxygen with tubes in my nose. I didn't like those either, though, so I was tore those out Sunday morning. That afternoon, mommy and daddy finally got to hold me - and we had our first family picture. Everyone keeps saying I have some fun hair - I'm think they're crazy ;)
You can also see my little IV they gave me. I need to get some antibiotics for a few days, so they gave me one to match mommy.

Mommy and daddy came to visit me lots while I stayed in the NICU - i knew when it was meal time during the day, because they came to feed me mommy milk! Yum! When it's feeding time, they let mommy and daddy take me out away from all the noisy machines and into the comfy family room. Here's a picture cuddling with mommy after lunch one day:
And here's one of daddy and me - You'll have to excuse me, I was a little milk-drunk, but mommy really wanted a picture.
I'll be in the NICU for a few more days, so stay tuned!
